Thursday, December 17, 2009 11:45am - 2:45pm 56 Forsyth Street N.W Atlanta GA, 30303 Lets show our city what solidarity looks like! Join Atlanta and Orlando Food Not Bombs on the steps of Atlanta's federal U.S. Court of Appeals to share food with those who need it and come together in support of those brave enough to stand up to the status quo no matter where they live. In July of '06, the City of Orlando passed an ordinance to stop food sharings in downtown parks. Orlando Food Not Bombs sued them in federal court in Oct. 06. In Sept. '08, 7 arrests later, the federal judge in Orlando ruled in favor of Orlando Food Not Bombs, and the City decided to appeal. So on Dec. 17 the federal appeals court in Atlanta will hold oral arguments in their case. Our own food not bombs has been attacked and harassed by the police and city officials and it's about time we take a stand and say no more! Lets stand in solidarity with Orlando Food Not Bombs and let our city officials know that these folks have friends in Atlanta who will come to their defense with true comradery and support. The actions taken to marginalize and alienate the poor in both our cities will not go unchallenged. Disregard for the poor in the sake of development and private interests is simply unacceptable. Other cities and the developers they pander to are acting just as irresponsibly all across this country but networks of committed people can make the difference we want to see. Food is a right! Not a privilege!
